Abstract: Mo-Cu carbon monoxide deyhdrogenase (CODH) found in oligotropha carboxidovorans brings together high-valent molybdenum oxo and carbon monoxide coordinated to low-valent copper to form carbon dioxide under aerobic conditions. Carbon monoxide oxidation is critical in industrial and automotive cases of incomplete combustion. Its oxidation is currently catalyzed by expensive and rare metals like platinum. Many groups have synthesized structural models of the metalloenzyme but none of these models have shown similar reactivity. In this talk, heterobimetallic complexes that depart from structural mimicry, but maintain the critical features of Mo=O and Cu-CX (X = O, NR), will be discussed, including two examples of CODH-like reactivity.
